So-hooo time for some Shell name ideas

Post by Xenedra on Thu Jan 22, 2009 6:06 pm

Being as our current shell holder is MIA and no one I've talked to so far seems opposed, I thought we could start thinking up names for a new shell.

One we kind of decided we liked earlier: Canta Crystallum (aka Song of the Crystal)

Think and post!

I found most of the Crystallum variants pleasing, so I would be ok with those.

I don't really know why we'd have to change shells - I mean, CPM is fine, and its not like we have to have the shell holder available anyway.

As it stands, I, along with several of my mules, am the only person with a sack. For now, that's fine, but what if I want to temp sack someone so they can give a pearl to a new member. Impossible at this point.

We can put off changing pearls for the time being if everyone wants to, just speak up.

I'm not opposed but I'm not particularly in favor.

There's actually a sack on one of my mules. A bit before Breese came back, I randomly realized one day that Ancalagon had a sack, so I made a pearl and tossed the sack. A bit later, Breese showed up and wanted a pearl. Xene rarely signed on during this period due to RL business, so I figured if I missed one on Ancalagon, perhaps I'd missed one on another mule and ran through the mules on both accounts. Sure enough, there was one other that had been missed, so I pearled Breese and kept it in case another such situation arose.

We're not 100% deadlocked for pearl creation, but it's still pretty limited. We don't exactly get people beating down our door for membership either though so I don't know how important having pearls ready at hand is. At this point I can go either way.

I think that a new shell isn't an entirely bad idea if Ayv is MIA. It keeps things less complicated. If we're going to get a new shell, I've got a few names I can throw out there.

I like keeping the "song" part, and the refference to the crystal. In the spirit of using "Song of the Crystal" in a dead language, I propose "Pa Abrem Oulle" It means "The Stone's Melody", I think. I'm by no means fluent in coptic.

Cantum Crystallum remains my favorite, though Canta Crystallum keeps a name-tie to the old one. If it's votes we're after, the latter has mine.

Latin is overused! Coptic is the dead language of the future!

I'd have to agree with vere;

I'm not really for a name change, but if majority votes say it, then Canta Crystallum goes.

Latin isn't dead. It's... Sleeping. That's why we've nailed it to the lexicon. If we hadn't, it'd muscle right up to those dictionaries and VOM!

That is not dead which modifies the predicate,
And with strange aeons, e'en death may conjugate.

We don't have much choice when it comes to a name change if we want a new shell so we can sack people, unless we want to wait several months, and see if Ayv's missing-ness frees up the name. No telling if it will, but perhaps at that point if I tossed my pearlsack the name would free up. if it doesn't happen, of course, we're a bit more screwed.

Hm. I wonder where Ayv is, though.

Hope he's all right...

It wouldn't hurt to make a new ls in my opinion. Just as you said we're kind of...short on sack holders. The name that's up is fine with me.
