Just yesterday all was quiet in Valkurm proper, the biggest threat to our legionaires stationed to protect Selbina was midday heat. Today its revolutionaries.

Early Iceday morning a small army of mercenaries led by Selbina native Joshua Drides surprise attacked the Bastokan Garrison. Republican Soldiers were taken off guard by the assault. The army suffered heavy casualties in retreat, and the mercenary forces continued on to the town, securing Selbina itself. Shortly after a proclaimation of independence was issued directly to the press by Drides' associates.

Selbina declared its independence ages ago. Bastok violated our will to be free from the Republic and seized our town. Since then we've been forced to service their ships for free, suffer the presence of the rowdy Bastokan Military, and become another cog in their trading machine. We will no longer suffer such indignities, we are not slaves. Today Selbina's independence has been restored, and we will fight to our deaths to preserve it.

There has been no official response from the President as of yet, and identities of the mercenaries involved in the military operation are in question. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
